Our visas were running out! We had about a week to leave Grenada. The options were to pay to extend our visas and our cruising permit or … leave. So we decided to leave!
But first, a couple of days of boat jobs.
I worked on painting the bilge under the stern gland – I got through ospho and two primer coats.

Ryan fixed our leaking UV Filter, a leaky mascerator pump (yup, the sh*t pump) and upgraded our dinghy davits to have a pulley system so I can help pull up the dinghy.

Lagoon Drift
Tyrell Bay has a lovely lagoon that we did an evening dinghy drift through. It was very calm and quiet with a bit of birdlife around and lots of fish jumping. As with many things, Hurricane Beryl seems to have impacted it quite severely with many of the mangroves being dead now.

Anse Le Roche
We provisioned and packed our boat up and got everything prepped. We filled up with water and sorted out our the paperwork (to leave Grenada).

We spent the night at Anse Le Roche before checking out and headed North.

This beach is the epitome of why we are doing this trip. Gorgeous white sand, no one around, a whole bay and a beautiful little beach bar. The weather was amazing, we hiked up a hill for a view and we snorkelled all around the bay. A seriously beautiful spot.

The hike was a bit hard to find but one of the guys who runs the beach bar came and showed us where to get started. We regretted our choice of pluggers (flip flops) and both of us stepped on a cactus at different points haha. It was a bit overgrown and the hurricane had brought down a few trees but still good. The view was nice even though we didn’t make it all the way to the end of the trail.

The day we were there was a Tuesday and a group of Grenadian day trippers showed up on water taxis to celebrate a 50th birthday party. They partied all day and around sunset we joined in! Nothing like a triple strength pina colada to get you in the mood to party!
Eventually after the sunset they all headed off on their fully loaded water taxis and the restaurant transformed from a wild party to a quiet, beach overlook vibe. Carnival beats to Bob Marley in less than 5 minutes.

Tim’s Beach Bar is known for its lobster barbeque… and oh, my, god, I literally had a dream about it again the night after and I woke up drooling. There is a short list of meals in my life that I have then dreamed about having again and this has made it onto that list. (A steak dinner at Moo Moos in Brisbane, the crawfish broil some friends made in Austin, haha dreaming of re-eating any of these!)

I just… cant even describe how tasty it was. There was only one other table there with four folks from the Catamaran next door. It must be so satisfying as a chef to hear the exclamations of delight when the ridiculous tray of lobster shows up; followed by the sounds of gluttonous pleasure as the decadent buttery goodness is consumed with wet smacking lips and oily fingers..
After eating a ridiculous amount of lobster, tuna steaks, conch curry and rice, salad, stuffed potatoes and plantain, we packed a take away box then they showed up with banana fritters drizzled in hot chocolate. I think we both almost drowned in happiness then.

Ryan and I rolled out of the restaurant and down the beach to the SUP we had left parked on the shore…. With a few laughs and commentary from the neighbours who were still at their table, we precariously balanced the take out boxes on the bow, and giggled and wobbled our way back to the boat. Thankfully only a short distance of 50meters or so.
We made it back onboard without incident and lay on the roof watching the stars til we had digested sufficiently to head to bed.
An amazing experience, and a meal I’ll never forget!
Goodbye Grenada
Waking up to a peaceful morning we found an amazing number of stingrays circling the area. Beautiful.
We headed out of Grenada and we were chatting about how this blog has done a bit of an injustice to this country. Although we have pretty much spent our time here working on the boat and sweating heaps, this country has been a pretty great place to do it in.
The people are friendly, the food is tasty and delicious, and the countryside, beaches and natural scenery are amazing. We have missed so many hikes, waterfalls, experiences, beaches and bars that all would be worthy places to visit and highlight; but I guess what I can say is, if you ever get the chance to visit I would definitely recommend it!
