Well, we are back in Australia and living in our house in Jindalee, Brisbane. We are settling back into life here and really loving seeing our friends and family here in Australia; although I think now we will always be missing our friends in the USA also.
We both look back on our amazing year off and are so proud we did it. The final weeks were especially challenging but the year was full of incredible moments we will never forget. I have no idea what we will do next – open to suggestions!
Some interesting numbers from our trip:
- 15 Country Check Ins
- 101 anchorages
- Average 2.3 nights per location (excluding Grenada work at the start)
- 381 hours of motoring
- 2405 nautical miles traversed (4454 kilometers or 2767 miles)
- Average speed 6.3 knots (11.6km/hr or 7.2mph)
Where is Perspective now?
The guy who bought Perspective turned out to be a really top bloke and he was the perfect person to buy it as he is fully setup for both old engines and steel boats. He did take her all the way up to Virginia in the following weeks and loved every minute of it. As of August, 2026, the engine hasn’t skipped a beat and the gearbox has had no issues at all! Obviously all our engine work had paid off and our anxiety about it was unfounded after all. Oh well. Such is life.

This will be the last blog post and eventually I will shut down this website after I convert it to a coffee table book. For all of you who read along – I hope you enjoyed the ride and the pictures. Thanks to those of you who emailed or messaged or otherwise encouraged me to keep writing. I’ve enjoyed the blog writing process; but I think I’ll go back to the annual Christmas card update! Way less work haha.
I hope that all our friends from overseas come visit us here in Australia – it’s a beautiful country with loads to see!
