Our Hull Story: It’s got Holes

25th July 2025 – Grenada

Where is the Boat?

We met up in Grenada where our new home is currently stored in a yard up on some stands. At 44ft, she looks tiny in amongst the giant catamarans!

Sadie Girl looking so teeny tiny.

Why…. isn’t it in the water?

Well, it’s a boat – so nothing ever goes to plan haha.

The paint on the bottom was really worn and there were a few minor spots needing welding and repair – so we asked them to haul her out and sand back to the metal; fix up the spots, then paint on prime and antifoul the base. (Easy peasy right?)

Wrong.

After sanding back, quite a number of areas of the hull were found to have severe corrosion or pitting. Being a steel hull…. that’s not a big deal! You just cut out the bad sections and replace them (in theory).

Start the Welding Repairs!!

Here are some pics of the areas of the hull we thought needed fixing:

And here’s some pictures of what was worked on in June…

And then what was worked on in July….

Welding is Nearing Completion!

Finally, we think all the welding is done so we can start getting the hull painted!

Prime Time!

Time to start priming!

And Finally…. Painting!!!

First we had to get the boot stripe put on (the shiny blue line at the top) and then they paint in underneath.

So Pretty Now!

We are Just a Little Proud of Her 🙂
